Vancouver: A rising city which forms the western terminus of the Canadian Pacific Railway. It bears the name of Captain George Vancouver, R. N., who, as a midshipman in Cook's last voyage, visited the coast in 1776, surveyed it in 1792, and discovered Vancouver Island.
