Tay: The largest river of Scotland, flows from Loch Tay, where, probably, was the Tainia or Ptolmy, a name explained by the Gaelic tamh, "tranquil," or "smooth," the equivalent of the Pictish tau and the Cymric taw, of which an oblique case may be the source of the name Tava, given by Tacitus to the Firth of Tay.
