Liege: The capital of the province of Liege, center of the Walloon country, and important manufacturing city of Belgium, situated on both banks of the Meuse. The city is supposed to have had its origin in a Roman colony; Latin name, Leodium. The French name goes back to Legia, possibly derived from a small stream which runs through the town.
