Colossus of Rhodes: A gigantic statue in commemoration of the successful defense of Rhodes against Demetrius Poliorcetes in 304 B.C. It required twelve years for its completion. It represented the Rhodian sun-god, Helios; was over 105 feet high, and was considered one of the seven wonders of the Old World.
