Cheyenne: Counties in Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska, mountain in Colorado, rivers in Nebraska and South Dakota, city in Laramie County, Wyoming, and several small places named for the Indian tribe. The word may be a corruption of the French chien, "dog," applied by some neighboring tribes to those at present known as Cheyennes.
