Tickell
Tickell, THOMAS (1686-1740), poet, was born in Cnmberland, and educated at Oxford. He became acquainted with Addison, through whose influence he was appointed Under-Secretary of State in 1717, and afterwards secretary to the Lords Justices of Ireland. As a poet he is chiefly remembered by his ballad of Colin< and Lucy, but he translated a portion of Homer, wrote an Elegy on Addison, and contributed to The Spectator.
