Syringe

Syringe is an extremely simple form of pump (q.v.). It consists of a cylinder ending in a nozzle, and containing an air-tight piston. If the nozzle be placed in some liquid and the piston be pulled outwards, liquid is forced into the cylinder by atmospheric pressure. On removing the syringe and pushing the piston inwards the liquld is forced out from the nozzle.
