Synagogue

Synagogue, the place of meeting of a Jewish congregation for worship and instruction, under tbe control of a board of elders, whose president is the "ruler of the synagogue." The term (Greek, synagoge, "a bringing together") was pnmarl1y applied to the congregation and its meet-ings.
