Symonds

Symonds, JOHN ADDINGTON (1840-93), man of letters, was born at Bristol, and educated at Harrow and Balliol College, Oxford. His Renaissance in Italy (7 volumes, 1875-86) is a monument of profound knowledge and literary insight. He also published Studies of the Greek Poets (1875-76), Shakespeare's Predecessors in the English Drama (1884), Shelley and Sidney in the English Men of Letters series, and other works.
