Suchet

Suchet, LOUIS GABRIEL, DUC D'ALBUFEIRA (1170-1826), Marshal of France, was born at Lyons. After distinguishing himself in Italy (1796-97), in Egypt (1798), in Italy again (1798-1801), and in the campaigns against Austria (1805) and Prussia (1806), he was given the chief command in Aragon (1809), and within two years brought the province completely under his control. He became Marshal of France in 1811, and, after subduing Valencia in 1812, received the title of Duc d'Albufeira. He rejoined Napoleon during the Hundred Days.
