Sphinxmoth

Sphinx, a genus of moths which is the type of the family Sphingidae and the section of Sphinges. The typical species of the genus is Sphinx ligustri (Linn.) or the Common Privet Hawk Moth, so named as the larva feeds on the privet, ash, etc. Sphinx melleni is a fossil species from the Solenhofen Slate in the Jurassic system in Germany.
