Spar

Spar, now merely a popular term, generally applied to any translucent and distinctly crystalline mineral, such as rock-crystal, calc-spar, fluor-spar, fel-spar, etc. In 1820 Vons Mohs attempted to use it as a classificatory term, including under it most silicates.
