Slovaks
Slovaks, a Slav people of North-West Hungary, numerous especially in the Waag and Gran valleys and about the head-waters of the Taracz and Tapoli affluents of the Theiss, with scattered groups in the Buda-Pest district and in other parts of Hungary as well as in Moravia. Slovak, which is a distinct dialect of Chekh (Bohemian), is spoken altogether by about 2,000,000 people. The physical type is distinguished by very round and low head, stature below the average, and a large percentage of blondes (fair hair, blue or grey eyes) due probably to German intermixture. The Slovaks are two-thirds Roman Catholic and one-third Protestant.
