Scheffel

Scheffel, JOSEPH VICTOR, VON, was born in 1826, and educated for the law, which he soon abandoned for literature. His first venture was a collection of student songs entitled Gaudeamus (1833). This was followed by The Trumpeter of Sackingen, Ekkehard, Frau Aventuire, Juniperus, Bergpsalmen, and Der Brautwillkom. In 1884 he published his last work, Hugideo, dying in 1886.
