Schaffhausen
Schaffhausen, a canton and its capital in the north of Switzerland. The former has an area of 109 square miles, and is surrounded by the duchy of Baden on all sides except the south, where Zurich forms the boundary. The surface is mountainous, but the valleys are very fertile; yielding cereals, wine, etc. The climate is mild and healthy. The town stands on the right bank of the Rhine about three miles from the picturesque falls, which attract many tourists. Several important industries are carried on - e.g. iron-founding, railway-carriage-building, and the manufacture of cotton and woollen goods, and of sparkling wines.
