Savona
Savona (classical Savo), a city and port in the province of Genoa, Italy, is situated on the Riviera, 25 miles W. of Genoa, and, having a good modern harbour, does an increasing trade. Coal is imported extensively, the exports being chiefly fruits and local prodnce. Earthenware is the principal industry, but there are large ironworks, and shipbuilding employs many hands. Among the public buildings may be noticed the commanding castle of St. George, the late Renaissance cathedral, the Della Rovere palace, and the Cappella Sistina.
