Sassari
Sassari, a province and its capital in the N. of the island of Sardinia, Italy. The area of the former is 4,131 square miles, but it is more rugged and far less populous than the S. province. The town of Sassari is situated in the N.W. angle, not far from Porto Torres, with which it is connected by railway. It occupies an elevation some 650 feet above sea-level, and was until recently surrounded by a wall and towers, built in the 14th century which is the date also of the castle.
