Rosewood
Rosewood, valuable furniture woods of a dark reddish colour, and of various origins. They are mostly the product of species of the leguminous genus Dalbergia. D. nigra, of Brazil, is the most esteemed, and D. latifolia and D. sissoides are the sources of Indian rosewood. Inferior sorts are obtained from the Jacaranda trees, species of Maclia-rium, in Brazil. Burmese rosewood is that of Ptcrocarpus indicus (the "Padouk"), and African rosewood that of P. erinaccus. AU are leguminous. We import three or four hundred tons annually in slabs about 12 feet long.
