Rifle Bird

Rifle-Bird (Ptilorhis paradisens), one of the Plume-birds from South-Eastern Australia. The popular name is said to have been given by the early settlers, who saw in the plumage of the male (velvety black above and olive-green below) some resemblance to the uniform of the Rifle Brigade.
