Rhabdoliths
Rhabdoliths are the minute, somewhat umbrella-shaped, calcareous spicules which are very abundant in deep-sea deposits both of the present, day and of the past, whether true fossil oozes or chalk. They are formed by organisms known as "Rhabdospheres," which are generally regarded as calcareous algse.
