Rawlinson
Rawlinson, Sir Henry Creswicke (b. 1810), was educated at Ealing, and entered the Bombay army, and served in India, Persia, and Turkish Arabia, holding several important diplomatic posts. He became most famous as a decipherer of cuneiform inscriptions, and published a great deal concerning them from 1836 onwards. He received many honours, and was elected a fellow of the Royal Society in recognition of his services to scholarship. Between 1858-65 he was a member of Parliament, and in 1891 was created K.C.B. He died in 1895.
