Protophyta

Protophyta, a provisional name for the lowest grade of plants, whether algal or fungal, in which no sexual process was known or seemed to have existed, they being unicellular bodies reproducing themselves by mere division. The group included the Cyanophyceaa and some Chlorophyceze and Phseophyceas among Algae, and the Schizomycetes and Myxomycetes among Fungi.
