Prevost Paradol

Prevost-Paradol, Lucien Anatole (1829-70), was born in Paris and educated at the College Bourbon. In 1855 he was professor of literature at Aix, but soon after became a leader-writer on the staff of the Journal des Debats. During the following years he published a collection of literary and political essays, and in 1865 was elected to the Academie Francaise. He was chiefly, however, known as an opponent of the Empire. He accepted, nevertheless, the post of ambassador to the United States from Ollivier, but committed suicide at New York almost immediately afterwards.
