Pressense
Pressense, Edmond de (1824-91), was born at Paris, where he became a Protestant minister in 1847, after studying at Lausanne, Halle, and Berlin. His most important works were, Histoire des Trois Premiers Siecles de I'Eglise Chretienne (1858-77), L'Eglise et la Revolution (1864), and Jesus Christ, Son Temps, Sa Vie, Son OEuvre (1866). These and other works were translated into English and German. In 1871 he was elected a deputy in the French Assembly, and in 1883 a senator.
