Potter John
Potter, John (1674-1747), Archbishop of Canterbury, was the son of a Wakefield draper. He was educated at Oxford, and in 1697-99 published Archaologia Grwca, for some time a very, popular work. In 1708 he became Regius Professor of Divinity, and seven years later Bishop of Oxford, being appointed Primate ten years before his death. He took part against Hoadley in the Bangorian Controversy.
