Porpora

Porpora, Nicolo (1689-1787), Italian composer, whose works were popular in his time, though now mostly forgotten. He was a pupil of Scarlatti, and wrote about fifty operas and much sacred music; but he was especially famous as a teacher of singing, some of his pupils afterwards becoming celebrated.
