Pharetrones

Pharetrones, an extinct family of calcareous Sponges belonging to the order Calcispongia?, allied to the existing family the Leuconidce. It ranged from the Devonian to the Upper Chalk. Its geological distribution is of interest, as the species all seem to have lived in shallow-water deposits.
