Ornithoptera

Ornithoptera, a genus of swallow-tailed butterflies (q.v.) (Papilionidee) which inhabits India and Malaysia and is remarkable for the great size of the individuals belonging to it. The expanse of wing varies from about 3 to 9 inches. The males are usually of a fine velvety black colour.
