Nordhausen

Nordhausen, a town of Prussian Saxony, on the Zorge, at the south base of the Harz Mountains, 48 miles N.N.W. of Erfurt by railway. The buildings include a late Gothic cathedral, with a Romanesque crypt; a church dedicated to St. Blasius, containing two pictures by Lucas Cranach; and a mediaeval town-hall. There are important breweries and distilleries, and leather, tobacco, and chemicals are manufactured.
