Niagara Falls
Niagara Falls, the stupendous cataract down which the Niagara river, which flows from Lake Erie to Lake Ontario, precipitates itself over a limestone ledge 137 feet high on the Canada side, and 150 feet on the New York side. For about 300 yards above the Falls the river is divided into two channels by a narrow island called Goat Island. The total breadth of the Falls is nearly three-quarters of a mile. They are 22J miles below Lake Erie. Niagara river is 37 miles in length, with a fall of 334 feet.
