Marceau
Marceau, Francois Desgraviers (1769-96), a young French general of great promise, was a native of Chartres. In 1792 he distinguished himself in the defence of Verdun. He next served with distinction in La ATendee. At the victory of Fleurus he commanded the right wing of the republican army. He was killed at Altenkirchen in September, 1796, when in command of the first division of the army of the Rhine.
