Mandoline

Mandoline, a musical instrument of the lute class, with six metallic strings (single or double) stretched on a stout, almond-shaped body, and with many frets on the neck. It is played with a plectrum, and has generally a compass of about three octaves upwards from G below middle C. It has a pleasant tinkling timbre.
