Manchester NH
Manchester, NH, a rising city in New Hampshire, United States, situated on the west bank of the Merrimac river, 16 miles below Concord, was settled in 1722, and assumed its present name in 1810. It has been the seat of a Roman Catholic bishop since 1846. It has important cotton and woollen manufactures, and machines of all kinds are also made. Water-power for the mills is obtained from the Amoskeag Falls through canals.
