Mahanadi
Mahanadi, a river of the Central Provinces of India, rising in the wild region, 20 miles S. of Raipur, and having an easterly course of 520 miles to Cuttack, passing through the Eastern Ghats by a gorge 40 miles long. At Cuttack, which is the head of the delta of Orissa, the river divides and flows E. and S.E. A great quantity of flood water is brought down by the river, and this water is much utilised by means of canals for irrigation purposes.
