Macon

Macon, a town of France, in the department of the Saone-et-Loire, 33 miles south of Chalons, on the right bank of the Saone. The streets are narrow, but it contains some fine modern public buildings, and has an extensive quay. The old ramparts are laid out as promenades. It is noted for its wines.
