Kohl

Kohl, Johann Georg (1808-78), a German writer and traveller, was born at Bremen, and educated at Gottingen, Heidelberg, and Munich. He travelled in every part of Europe between 1842 and 1851, and wrote works descriptive of his experiences, and afterwards visited Canada and the United States, which he also described. On his return he left Dresden for Bremen, in which latter he was city librarian till his death. His History of the Biscovery of America was translated into English in 1862.
