Jay William
Jay, William (1769-1853), a Dissenting preacher of some power, was the son of a Wiltshire stonecutter. Before he was twenty crowds came to hear him preach in Surrey Chapel, London. After a short time at Chippenham and Clifton he became pastor of the Argyle Independent Chapel at Bath, where he remained for the rest of his life, and was highly esteemed as a preacher. He married for the second time at the age of seventy-seven. He published twelve volumes of devotional works.
