Israels
Israels, Josef (b. 1824), genre painter, born ' at Groningen, studied at Amsterdam and in Paris under Picot and Henri Scheffer. In 1885 his Prince William of Orange opposing the Becree of the King of Spain, attracted attention in the Exposition Universelle. He settled at Katwijk near Leyden, and more recently at the Hague. In 1867 he received a third-class medal and the ribbon of the Legion of Honour, and eight years after the cross and first-class medal.
