Ironwood
Iron-wood, a name which, with its French qurvalent Bois de fer, is applied to a considerable lumber of hard woods, belonging to various natural irders, but mostly natives of the tropics. Among hem are various species of Sideroxylon (Sapotaoeae), Vetrosideros (Myrtaoeae), Eucalyptus (q.v.), and Olea; Sloctia sideroxylon in the Malay Archipelago; and, in North America, the hornbeams, Carpinus americana and Ostrya virginica.
