Instantaneous Centre

Instantaneous Centre, in any moving mechanism, means the point at any given instant that is for the moment motionless. A wheel rolling along the ground has one point in contact with the ground. This point is for the moment held motionless, and thus acts as the instantaneous centre, the rest of the wheel swinging round it.
