Hydroxylamine
Hydroxylamine, or Oxyammonia, a compound of composition NH.,-OH usually prepared by action of hydrogen upon a nitrite or nitrate, the hydrogen being generated in the vessel containing the compound. Its solution is a strongly basic substance, which combines with acids to form salts.
It possesses strong reducing properties, and has been used as a photographic developer. The pure substance has been prepared only within very recent years, and is a strongly reactive and readily explosive crystalline solid.
