Hosea

Hosea, one of the twelve minor prophets. His book tells us that he was the son of one Befirl, a citizen of the kingdom of Judah, and that he prophesied in and after the reign of Jeroboam U., during the latter part of the Sth century B.C. His marriage to Gomer-bnth-Diblaim, whom he divoroed on aooount of her infidelity but afterwards received back, is symbolical of the rebellion and idolatry of Israel and the ultimate pardon of Jehovah. Of the fourteen chapters, eleven consist of denunciatory prophecies of a somewhat vague character, in which the social state of the kingdom is represented as extremely corrupt.
