Homoptera
Homoptera, the division of Rhynchota (q.v.) which includes all those in which the anfericr pairs of wings are of the same texture throughout, as in the Cicadidcs, Lantern Flies, Plant Lice (Aphides), Scale Insects (Coccidai), etc. The last of these is of great economic value, as the dried females of one species (Coccus cadi) forms cochineal, while another (C. lacca) yields shellac. As a rule, the members of this group are small and inconspicuous. but a few of the Membrarielcv are fairly large, and resemble butterflies in general aspect.
