Hohenstaufen
Hohenstaufen, the name of a dynasty which occupied the imperial throne of Germany from 1138 to 1254. In the 1 lth century Frederick von Staufen, son of Frederick von Biiren, was rewarded by the Emperor Henry IV. with the hand of his daughter and the Duchy of Swabia. His younger son Konrad, Duke of Franconia, after a long struggle with Lothar of Saxony, was ultimately elected Emperor in 1138, mid was followed by his nephew, Frederick I.. Barbarossa, 1152; Henry VII., 1190; Philip I., 1198; Frederick II., 1212; Conrad IV, 1251-54, when the imperial authority was for a time abrogated.
