Harmodius

Harmodius and Aristogeiton, two Athenians who in 514 B.C. attempted to deliver the city from the rule of the Pisistratidae, and succeeded in murdering Hipparchus, younger brother of the tyrant, Hippias. Harmodius was immediately slain by the body-guard of Hippias, and Aristogeiton was afterwards seized and put to death. Four years later Hippias was expelled by the Spartans.
