Guava
Guava, the fruit of Psidiuni Guagava and other species, small trees of tropical America belonging to the Myrtle family. The fruits vary very much in size, shape, and colour, the most valued being the "white guava" (var. pyrifcrd), with pear-shaped, yellow or whitish fruits the size of a hen's egg. The inferior "red guava" (var. pomifera), which is more apple-shaped, is also used in preparing guava-jellgand guava-cheesc, which preserves, owing to the perishable character of the fruit, are the only forms in which the fruit is imported into England. The tree has been naturalised in the East, and thrives in English hothouses.
