Great Salt Lake

Great Salt Lake, in Utah, extends along the western side of the Wahsatch Mountains; It is about 80 miles in length, from 20 to 32 in breadth, and is 4,200 feet above the sea-level. It is very shallow and is destitute of fish, but contains insects of various kinds. There are several islands in the lake, one of which, Antelope Island, has a length of 18 miles. The lake has several tribnteu'ies but no outlet, the waters disappearing through evaporation.
