Gram
Gram, an Indian name for several kinds of pulse, especially the chick-pea (q.v.), Bengal or common gram, Cicer arietinuin; the horse-gram of Madras, Doliehos uniftnrus and D. hifiorus; the green gram, Pltaseolus Mungo and P. Roxburghii, and the black gram, a variety (var. mela.nospermay of the former. They are largely eaten by the natives, and upwards of 15.000 tons are annually exported, chiefly to Mauritius, Ceylon, and Singapore, as horse- and cattle-food.
