Gleim
Gleim, Johann Ludwig (1719 -1803), a mediocre German poet, but liberal patron of men of letters, was affectionately called "Father Gleim." He wrote seven volumes of verses, imitations of classic lyrists, songs and fables; but his "Lieder cities Preussischen Grenadiers" (" Songs of a Prussian Grenadier") was his only work of any merit. He died at Halberstadt, in the neighbourhood of which he had been born.
