Gladbach
Gladbach, a town in Rhenish Prussia, 16 miles W. of Dusseldorf. It was formerly the centre of a linen trade, but now chiefly manufactures cotton. Other industries are bleaching, dyeing, papermaking, and brewing. The town is very old, and has a church some parts of which date from the 8th century. Monchen-Gladbach is to be distinguished from Bergisch-Gladbach, a much smaller place, 8 miles N.E. of Cologne, where drag-nets are made, and there are zinc-works.
